A charity event in aid of Cancer Research
The black Swan Inn
Devizes. Wilts
Report
Saturday 24th January 2009
Arrival time 2200hrs Departed 0400hrs
A group of six joined Mick Bony & two other members from the gbhw paranormal researchers, also three good friends who are experienced Mediums.
Held an all night vigil in.  The Black Swan Devizes in aid of Cancer Research.
The event was organised by Mick a member of the gbhw paranormal researchers from Coalpit Heath, Nr Bristol.
The Black Swan is located in the centre of Devizes overlooking the Market Place, this former Coaching Inn dates back to 1737.  The cellars we believe date back to the 1600s
It is said that it was once owned by a notorious horse dealer.  He was suspected to have been a highwayman using the labyrinth of tunnels with which to leave and return unnoticed.
We started the vigil in the function room at the top of the building.  We spent some time there; gradually names of people from the past life began to come through to us.  Changes in the atmosphere were felt as the temperature dropped, cold breezes were felt by some of the group, and a distinct smell of what can only be described as bread pudding with cinnamon.  There was the spirit of a lady who we were not able to name; she came across as a sad sole.  Yet the room had a calm and peaceful feeling about it. It was also felt that this room is not as it was decades ago, as the main entrance to this room had been relocated. It is thought that the Black Swan had been re-built in 1732.  Perhaps this is why the orientation of the room picked up by the mediums is confusing.  It is possible that presence of some of the spirits picked up seemed to be on different life planes, very confusing.
We next braved the cellar.  Here we found there to be an older male who was reluctant to make his self known to us.  Our mediums also picked up on children from the past who had apparently passed away through illness.  Deeper into the investigation in the cellar it was found that one of the children was related to the sad old lady we encountered in the functions room.  It seemed each one was on a different plane and were unable to find each other.  It was agreed that it was only right to send them both to the light where they could reunite.  After much discussion about the events experienced in the cellar, we retired to the bar area where coffee was most welcome.
Most of the group sat around a large round table with a glass to try to connect with spirit people, please note we do not use Ouija boards.  Using a yes or no answer, questions were asked and positive responses were experienced.  There were occasions when the glass reacted of its own accord.
This was a very active and positive night for us all.
Note: Names have been omitted to protect the privacy of any living relative’s
We would like to convey our thanks to three good friends and mediums for joining us.

Our first Paranormal Investigation
Caz & Ade

We arrived at the Black Swan early in order to have a meal and to try to suss out the place, as it was our first paranormal experience.  By about 10.30pm the rest of the group had arrived and we were lucky enough to have a few psychics and mediums in the group.

We first went upstairs into the conference room where Marc De Ville said a protective prayer before calling the spirits.  During the calling the lower half of the room started to feel colder, and at one point I (Caz) thought someone had touched my hand, which made me jump.  Several names and stories came forward during this session and at one point we were told there was a woman stood in the far left corner of the room.  Ade took a speculative photograph at this point, which on developing showed an orb in the exact position mentioned.

After a short while we left this room to go to the cellars, and once again several callings were made.  Unfortunately we did not personally feel any paranormal activity although Jean had to leave due to severe headaches which came on whilst some of the group tried to pass over two children to the other side.  After leaving the cellar we all went to the bar area and had coffee, after which six of us tried some table tilting but to no avail.

We then decided to try some glass movement, and this is where it got scary!  With Marc calling for spirits, the glass started to move. We asked the spirit in the glass several questions requesting it to move to Marc if the answer was yes, and to Ade if the answer was no.  We encountered a spirit of a woman who had been strangled at the inn and once again Marc helped her to move to the light.  Thinking that was all we were about to leave the table when the glass started to move again, this time the spirit of the landlady's father (who was watching over her) started to communicate.  We all asked the spirit questions which only the landlady and her father would know the answers to, and got the correct replies.  After about 30 minutes of constant questioning and glass movement the spirit left us.

The night finished around 3.30am with us both agreeing that there was something unexplained at the inn and we left looking forward to another paranormal experience. It certainly was exciting, scary at times but a very enjoyable evening.
